5 Tips For The Perfect Skin For Your Boudoir Session
You've finally pulled the trigger and booked a boudoir photo session! In the days leading up to your session, here are a few things you can do to ensure your skin is looking photo-ready on the day of your shoot.
1. DRINK WATER! Hydrated skin is healthy skin. So while skincare can absolutely help hydrate your skin, the best hydration comes from the inside. If you struggle with remembering to drink water, it may help to carry a water bottle and aim to drink and refill it 2-3 times a day, depending on volume.
2. Stick to a daily skincare routine! If you don't have a skincare routine you love, here's a simple one: cleanse, tone, moisturize. Try to avoid anything too active if your skin isn't used to it. Gentle cleansers with soothing ingredients like aloe, colloidal oatmeal, and oils like argan or jojoba, will remove dirt and bacteria without stripping moisture from the skin. Don't skip moisturizer even if you tend to be oily -- sometimes dehydrated skin overproduces oil, causing breakouts. Make sure to follow up with SPF in the morning!
3. Dermaplaning is a great option for anybody like me who isn't a big fan of their facial hair! We've all got it, but if you don't want your facial fuzz visible in your photos, dermaplaning at home with a feather razor is a great way to both remove that hair and gently exfoliate off dead skin cells!
4. Do an at-home peel the night before your session! Definitely wait a day or two after dermaplaning to do this so that you don't irritate any small abrasions on your skin. A gentle (low concentration) lactic acid or other alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) at-home peeling treatment is a good place to start if you've never done one before. Be sure to apply moisturizer generously afterward (skip the toner).
5. The morning of your shoot, cleanse, tone, and moisturize as usual. Your skin will be glowing!
