4 Ways to Make a Statement with an Offbeat Bridal Look

World events shape fashion trends. In a time when so many couples are finally getting the wedding they’ve had to postpone (sometimes multiple times) due to COVID-19 concerns, it’s no surprise that many brides these days are ditching tradition in favor of doing things their way, and we’re here for it! If you’re looking to make a statement with a bridal look that your guests will remember and talk about for years, here are a few of our favorite ideas!

1. Forget the white dress.

This year, non-white wedding dresses are huge! And if you’re a bride who loves color, this is your opportunity to really make a splash (while also forgoing the “pure and virginal” aspect of bridal fashion that might not necessarily be your thing). We’ve seen everything from white dresses with colorful panels and accents, to all-black goth bride ensembles, to full-body rainbow sequins! It’s your day, and nobody can tell you not to wear colors you feel great in!

2. Unconventional kicks.

Who doesn’t love a statement shoe? A lot of brides have been swapping out their pumps for sneakers or combat boots for some extra comfort, or chunky ankle boots with loud patterns for a little extra flair. An unexpected shoe choice is a fun detail that will be hidden under a long dress skirt, but show your personality, and probably make standing around all day and dancing your booty off all night so much more comfy!

3. Pants!

It’s not reinventing the wheel (queer couples have been getting married in pants, jumpsuits, etc. for decades!) but for some brides, a gown is simply too restrictive for busting a move at their reception, and who are we to hold them back? All jokes aside, pants are a great option for brides who want to reject tradition. Pockets, more range of motion, and easier pee breaks! You had us at pockets.

4. Accessories make it YOU.

Styling is everything, and a funky accessory or two (or five) can take the most traditional and classic bridal gown and make it feel unique and special! We’ve seen brides in capes, hats, statement jewelry, belts, fascinators, sunglasses, gloves, leather jackets, crowns and tiaras, and more! It’s your day, and if you don’t feel like the classic bridal look is for you, wear something that makes you feel like the cool, beautiful, kicka** bride your spouse-to-be fell in love with!
